I have recently been clearing an estate of warbird aircraft and spares. There are a lot of spare parts that we have identified, but a few that have defied us. We need to identify these items and find a suitable home for them.
There are many NOS castings – all similar colour and with part numbers starting FT. Example FT 3516 STBD.
I am assuming they are of English origin, but aircraft (or engine) type alludes me. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

I stand corrected – thanks. It looks likely that the castings are from HS Andover, but unable to prove that 100%.

coldkiwi, the NZ Army had at least 12 Centurion tanks. They have the RR Meteor. 🙂
I think there is still one parked up outside the museum at Waiouru.

Ah yes. Thanks. Was briefly in coms with Mike before a decision was made. Judy Pay’s team is on minimum crew for now – no joy there. Do have some good leads I’m working on, but more leads always helpful. Cheers.

There were the badly deteriorated remains of rive Vampires plus a pile of spares. Unfortunately already gone and the owner does not wish to be identified. Have you tried Judy Pay for parts?

The parts in the photos are not Vampire. The p/ns you have don’t match anyway. If you have found Vampire parts and are looking for a new home for those, I would be interested in details…

RR Meteor engines were never used in NZ.

That colour looks very much like the finish on the RR meteor tank engines?

Thanks for all your comments. The parts are all aluminium castings and I suspect that the numbers are the “casting” rather than finished parts. I have inspected a sample of the parts under 10X magnification and came across some inspector stamps – circle with JM 402. One of the parts also has a BM part number , but again – not in any lists I have.
The parts are in New Zealand, so I suspect a type such as Bristol Freighter, Argosy, Hastings, Andover , Vampire.
It would be good to find a home for these parts as they are all in very good condition.

You mention engine type. The part number list above if I remember rightly doesn’t have p/ns for engines.
RR has a wide range of p/ns with the format like those; two letters followed by a load of digits. These include the likes of BT, GN, HW, KB, PP, RK, SE, XR, etc, followed by 1 to 4 digits. But I don’t know of FT. Maybe someone else?

How big are the parts and what might their purpose be? The large flanged pipes suggest to me ducting attached to a bulkhead. Hot air for deicing or cannon heating?
Bristol Freighter?
Fairey?

I’m not sure if this was the final on this forum for part number information:

Anyway, I couldn’t find FT.
Questions: Are there any other numbers at all? Although it doesn’t seem likely in this case, castings often include lot numbers as well as part numbers. Also – do you think that this is the ‘final’ part? That there would be any further machining to finish the part. Finished cast parts may have two part numbers – one for the casting, and the other perhaps ink-marked or impressed for the finished part.
Is it aluminium alloy?
