Aircraft Control Column

I was wondering if any forum members might be able to tell me which
type of aircraft/helicopter the control column that has just sold on ebay
(230337407148) is from?

If the auction is up at Stone it’s a spade grip and column with brake lever and no gun button. Would love to skive off work and bid! saw the catalogue but couldn’t work out online bidding.

Comet/Nimrod seems likely – and there a few of them about at the moment.

I think I have AC61860 as being a Whirlwind stick grip.

I say “I think” because my spreadsheet is in a file format not recognised by any of my current programmes. I have managed to open it in MS Word but it’s now 365 pages of mostly hieroglyphics!

AC61860 and Whirlwind appear in close proximity, however, so I’m fairly confident that’s what you’ve got.

My new control column has arrived today and I am very happy with it.

However, I have been looking over the stamps on it and was starting to wonder if it might be from a westland wessex rather than a Wessex Whirlwind. There seems to be quite a few stamps marked WA266 amd WA160 which seem (from what I have googled) to be contract numbers for westland wessex helicopters. Then again, I did wonder if they might just be part numbers.

Other stamps include:

Part No. AC 61860
ISS 1 000
NO 346 – 1 – 66

ACO 31578
ISS1

WA9 51 1715
ISS2

WA 51 3598 ISS1 AY9

WA76 (in a double oval)
WA107 (in a double oval)

WAG-45-615-3-1556-BK7-?DP5.WA160

I was wondering if 51 might be the part numbers linked to a certain type of helicopter?

Any help would be great,

Johnnie

Thank you for the replies. I had noticed it and thought I would put a silly bid on not expecting to get it!! I thought it might be from a Wessex as I found a few cockpit photos on the internet, but couldn’t work out what type it was from.

Does anybody have a photo of a Whirlwind cockpit showing the column?

Looks like a Wessex. Quite a bargain there. I went for the Bell 47 but a bit too pricey for me.
