I went to school at Blackfriars School, Laxton, Northants, as we were very near lots of WW11 airfields, there must have been numerous aircraft accidents in the area surrounding Laxton, in particular Wakeley Woods which was very near to school. We know of the B17 Flying Fortress which crashed.
This aircraft was B17 42-3037, called The Windy City Avenger from the 384 th Bomb Group, the crew from this aircraft bailed out over the Uk and all were saved, but the plane flew for some time crewless before coming down on the edge of the woods. If interested in this story, Google 384th Bomb Group and all will be revealed.
Looking forward to hearing all details of crashes in that area.

Wheneabouts were you at Laxton? I’m trying to establish whether or not my late father, Rory Langford-Rae, was at Laxton: he was a friend of Charlie Hodgson, who certainly was, and I believe they met at school.
