Probably a sensible idea to keep it here actually, it’ll get invaded by certain people (no names, but I’m sure you can guess) if it’s put on the GD board.

Good point Sandy!

Sandy’s normally take 9-ish Hours isn’t it Sandy? My ATP took me two days, and thats working fairly flat out. The 737 was circa. 60-ish Hours! You can see the difference. Not that mine are any better or worse than Sandy”s but clearly I got for the photoreal, precises look that Sandy’s doesn’t need. Catering for two different niches!

9 hours seems about right, working non stop.

then theres updating the buggers when you discover a neat new trick. LOL

Er, is there an idiots guide ? cos I have problems deciphering these books!!

It’s fairly straightforward with step by step tutorials, not quite aimed at entry level photoshoppers but still easy enough to understand.

I can recommend this book/magazine that I bought in WH Smith at the weekend for £15. It has two cd-rom’s with tutorials and loads of easy to follow lessons and advice from Photoshop users.

I too am fairly useless at Photoshop, you could try and look for an evening class at your local FE college, lot’s of them do courses.

I must point out, Matthews templates are for more involving. He’s going for that photoreal look and thus takes time. Mine are done in circa a day or two as I use my for representational purposes for my livery designs.

Thanks for the tip, Ren Frew, I can never get enough help with Photoshop and have asked my relatives in the UK to buy it for me to collect next time I go over.

The only way is to attend a hands-on course – I spent 14 weeks learning the introduction to Photoshop 7 and still didn’t cover all the tools it contains! Illustrator is at least as complicated!

It would be impossible to teach you over the forum.
I suggest you get yourself a copy of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator and acquaint yourself with the product (via their handbooks). These are not easy applications, but their not too difficult either.
I’ve been using them since 2000 and I’m still learning.

Once your familiar with the products I could perhaps post a tutorial. But I don’t have all that much time for that.

however, that said. The process in a nutshell:

Find official or partly official blue print of required aircraft. (manufacturers such as Boeing and Airbus provide files that you can open in Illustrator. Use this to get the exact shapes of the fuselage and other important areas otherwise: ) Open the blue print in Illustrator and trace over the contours with the pen tool. Then copy and paste these to Photoshop. you could just trace them in photoshop directly but I prefer Illustrator as I can save off the lines as a small file for my archive.

Once you have the basic shap in photoshop, add details and colour to suite.

Finished.
