Hoping for a good outcome:

They mention high energy impact and neither the ballistic parachute nor the liferaft had been deployed. This is the conclusion of the report:
Conclusion
The investigation did not determine the cause of the accident. However, immediately prior
to it, the pilot was flying in meteorological conditions that were not suitable for flight under
VFR and he did not have the qualifications required to operate under IFR. Disengagement
of the autopilot in these circumstances would have made it very difficult for him to control
the aircraft manually. The lack of evidence that the pilot used the emergency parachute
system and absence of any emergency radio transmission means that pilot incapacitation
could not be discounted as a factor.

It would appear that divers have ‘accidentally’ found the fuselage. :eagerness:

Yulia, the pilot’s wife has started this blog to keep us informed.

An appeal is being made for donations to raise the aircraft and answer some questions as no other organization is interested in the recovery.
You would think the authorities would recover the aircraft. There must be an RN or other European naval vessel near by that could raise it?

Have seen photos of the wreckage and that is why the search is not being continued. The aircraft now identified as N147KA.

I’m surprised they didn’t spend at least one more day searching for the pilot. However I guess they know what the chances of survival are in the sea better than I do.

Not looking good at all, has there been any update today?
By: Moggy C - 22nd July 2013 at 10:34
Oh dear.
A spokesman for Dover Coastguard said: “Having taken the advice of the RAF as well as the French rescue authorities, we have decided that we won’t be resuming the search.”

Yeah. 🙁 BBC news says the search for the pilot has been suspended for the night. That really does make it look very bleak 🙁

No news on that, which can’t be good. If it is Cirrus they aren’t ideal to use the chute over water.

You are always hyper-sensitive to engine noises overwater.

I actually agree with that. When I trained at Perranporth, we did our circuits over the sea and I always remember being so sensitive to the engine noise.
As apparent wreckage has been found, I take it the pilot hasn’t?

Ex-Blackbushe by all accounts.

I’ve done six crossings so far this year and actually spend longer over the Thames Estuary than over The Channel (Route Harwich > Cap Gris Nez more or less straight line)
