To answer the last two. We changed ours to all region and have no problems and have only changed it once.

We don’t have to change between PAL and NTSC. It all plays.

Just a warning… if you are changing the region setting on your DVD player to play foreign DVDs you might like to keep in mind that for most DVD players you can only change the region 4-5 times… after that the change is perminant and you won’t be able to change it again. A friend of mine uses his laptop for watching movies and kept changing regions to watch different movies… now it is stuck on region 1 and most of his DVDs won’t play (they are local region 4).

Cheers Ren frew
Just curious though once it is region free you do not have to do anything to alternate between pal and ntsc right?

www.videohelp.com has a list of hack codes for players to make them multi region. It’s normally just a case of pressing a sequence of buttons on the remote or front panel in the correct order.

My last cheap player bought in WH Smith actually came with a guide as to how to hack it, handed over the counter by the sales assistant.

Peter.

I don’t know if there is a similar web site in Canada but this ones worth a look for help.
http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/

There is a forum page so posting might throw up some answers.

Good luck.

BP.

We had a UK region only DVD and a quick internet search and some simple reprogramming made it all area. It is simply a matter of resetting the standard settings. Most machines can be done. We happily watch our US version of Finding Nemo as well as the UK bought B of B.

A google seach on “reprogamming DVD” should be a good start.

Ours took about fifteen minutes, ten of which was reading the instructions.

As you have already got the dvd player are you going to change it for one that can play Region 2 [UK standard region,] or even muti region,or are you going to see about chipping the one you have to turn it into a multi region/region free player. It can be done on alot of players BUT it may invalidate any warranty.

Do an ebay search for “multi region dvd” and you will see players from $50-$150. Mine works great.

If you really get stuck, most wedding video companies will do a cheap Pal-NTSC conversion for you onto a blank recordable DVD disc.

You have two issues here. DVD’s are regionalised, there to stop cheap imports.UK/Europe being region 2, USA and Canada region 1.some players will not accept other regions. You will have to check if its a multi region player.
You may however be ok if you want to watch aviation dvd’s from the UK as I doubt they are regionalised?
You will also have problems with the PAL/NTSC issue. Most PAL players will play NTSC but most NTSC will not play PAL. My guess is that if its a cheap player you may be out of luck, sorry. Best to RTFM(read the f*** manual 😉 )
