Whilst clearing some of my late fathers stuff I came upon a scruffy aircraft fire axe, I was quite surprised to see the air ministry logo and a date of 1939.
I’ve always associated these axes with metal aircraft, and I didn’t think there were that many around pre war that would carry an axe.
Does any one know when this iconic design was introduced?

Earliest I`ve seen were dated 1939..developed from civvie insulated fire axes…and they`re still making them!!
