Aircraft I wish I'd seen that I forgot!

Just looking through some tapes from the first camcorder I bought in 1989. Some years before I started making airshow programmes or I even had a serious interest in aircraft.

I obviously decided to go to an airshow, so I went to Biggin Hill. Turns out I have actually seen the Vulcan and an F-111 fly, as some (very wobbly) shots proved!

Memory goes with age you know!

Of course, you don’t even get to hear the Boom anymore… 🙁

Some days I get to hear 3 or 4 🙂 The ones that REALLY get my attention are when the Shuttle lands at Edwards. Those ones rattle all the plates in the kitchen cupboards & make stuff in the house move. I’ve even had sash windows slam shut a couple of times 😀

No i am in my 30’s but have loved aviation since i was about 4, so anything with wings gets the blood going.

I also remember going to the 1983 RAF marham air show with a victor refuelling two of the ‘brand new’ tornado strike fighters, i still have the program somewhere.

One of my fondest memories from when i was young is of the old cranfield air shows in the mid to late 80s (before they became ALL cessna), i remember standing in front of an idling lightning and of a vulcan flying over my house at about 500ft on its way to the display.

And of a jet car and the first (of many) time i sat in a hercules.

These are good memories of aircraft that are now mostly museum piece’s (unforunately) or soon to be.

Vulcans, Bucs, Lightnings, Shackletons, Phantoms

Nostalgia at it’s best.

I’m in Norfolk, and can remember seeing (or rather hearing first) the Lightnings from Coltishall “Playing” overhead.

You’d hear a sonic boom and rush out, you could just about see a Lightning rolling at some ridiculous height, as the glint of the sun catches the bare fuselage. 🙂

Of course, you don’t even get to hear the Boom anymore… 🙁

Same here, remember (i think) going to shows in the 80s and 90s and seeing Vulcans, Bucs, Lightnings, Shackletons, Phantoms, Blackbirds, Mirage 3s, Ginas ………..the list goes on doesn’t it.

As they say you dont realise until its gone……….. Now if only some one had the determination (whoops i mean bottomless pit of money) to get a Vulcan flying again.

I know exactly what you mean!
I was beginning to doubt my fading memory in my belief that I’d seen a Blackbird fly until I found a couple of pics I took at Mildenhall in 1986-ish.
