Aircraft identification required please

Could someone please confirm this aircraft type.
I am pretty sure its a Miles, but not sure which type.
Taken at Abingdon’s last ever display.
Thanks
Phil.

No Philo….you were right with RAF Abingdon! I remember doing displays in B hangar with our aircraft parts (the gone but not forgotten Oxfordshire aircraft collection) excellent fun they were. Happy days.

RE: Aircraft identification required please

I live about 4 miles from RAF Abingdon (sorry Dalton Barracks!)and it can be quite busy occasionaly,C130 quite often, lots of helicopters, Grobs(yawn) most weekends, Islanders,Shorts Box and bits and bobs. There is a guy who occasionally flys a Yak 52 out of there and does aerobatics locally as well.
So its still alive !

I think Moggy’s term ‘Pongo’ refers to members of the British Army. I was down at Abingdon towards the end of last year visting rellies,so I thought I’d have a nosey at the airfield whilst I was there.
The place was absolutely deserted, with no flying activity of any sort, despite the good weather. On the plus side,it’s all looking very smart,so it seems the Army know how to look after the place. From what the locals say,it seems that Abingdon will remain active for the forseeable future.

At least its intact, unlike my beloved Swinderby which teeters towards being built on then back again to what is surely the best unspoilt bomber station left in Lincolnshire. Apart from the modern tower you honestly would think you back in 1945.

I assume Abingdons safe for now?

Forgive my ignorance but what are pongoes?

Like all the rest.

It’s a barracks full of pongoes. Some cadets in plastic motor gliders and the occasional C130 when there’s a scheme on.

Sad or what?

Same scheme Philo but the blue on her now doesn’t seem as bright as that one – maybe the light or the film!

David,
Of course it is, i should have realised that staight away, particularly having seen it at Shuttleworth (in a very pale scheme ?).
It was probably the blue colour that threw me here.
Thanks anyway.
100 lines……..I must brush up on my aircraft recognition

RE: Aircraft identification required please

Philo – She is a Miles Messenger 2A which was rebuilt by Clive Du Cros
whilst he was also doing his Spitfire replica. She was sold to Peter Holloway and was most recently at Shuttleworth on display. She is offered for sale at present at £9,000 but requires serious work to her spar before she could fly again. The markings she carries refer to the scheme she wore when she won the Kings Cup in the 1950’s.
