Aircraft identity: what counts as an aircraft identity, my hurricane is allegedly BD 713 but i have no id plate and so far no serial numbers on the frame so what does that make my airframe??? I dug a PRU Spit a few years ago in Devon I know I was the first to dig it as the farmer had seen it crash pointed to the spot and said i knew someone would be along one day to dig it up. Because it went down due to engine failiure 67MU did a real job on it and all we got was a bucket full of bits. The smaller prop reduction gear from the Merlin being the biggest piece. No plates at all survived buts its 100% the right aircraft and the MOD licence gave me ownership of the pieces. Do I own a Spitfire identity?? It also troubles me that i am going to have to replace nearly all the steel frame in the Hurri and the centre wing section is a new build. When is an aircraft considered original and when does it become a Replica??

I would ask him for the data plate or other evidence that he used to identify her.

Unless there is a clear course of ownership and some possibility of the original
finder of her verifying what you have is an unidentified Hurricane frame.
Well her ID was confirmed by the chap that recovered her from Russia is that sufficient?
