….

As for the Grasshopper, this was what was passed onto Demobbed:

XP458 ex Norwich Museum, a recent visit here confirmed that this airframe was returned to its owner back in 1987 after it was damaged whilst on display. The museum is somewhat bemused by the continued sightings of it at museum since then.

W&R 23 notes the Grasshopper under the City of Norwich Museum but states “ex Fakenham area. Stored.”

 I’m slightly surprised at their bemusement, perhaps they need to amend the listing that Mr Ellis sends out to every museum before each edition of W&R is published!

Aircraft in Norfolk

The Hunter near Mildenhall is X210 And is in Beck Row

Actually, that’s a slight typo – it Hunter F.6 XG210, and this is what it looked like in late 2011

Hawker Hunter F6

Back in 2007, it was looking somewhat faded and weathered – but as you can see, did get a lick of paint in 2009-2010, and looks fairly tidy

The Hunter is a cockpit section and based with a private owner in the Thetford area – as described, he also has the ex southend lightning section, amongst others as well.

Is that the old Rayleigh ATC Lightning cockpit ?

That looks a very nice cockpit.

If I may be allowed to go off at a slight tangent.

When I used to get the park and ride from Lakenheath to the Mildenhall Air Fete,
the bus used to pass a house which had a hunter in the front garden.
Is it still there ?, and what was it’s history ?

I seem to remember it had a red white and blue colour scheme.

I believe that Hunter WW664 you referred to may only be a cockpit that was briefly on loan to the museum where I volunteer.

The Grasshopper is on the books of the City of Norwich Museum (but stored off site) and I believe the L-39 has been referred to on this forum in relation to featuring in a James Bond film.

Hi TwinOtter
I know that they are private.
I was hoping that their owners maybe on here, or maybe somebody knows the owners?

Welcome – according to this ‘aviation bible’ most appear to be in private stores! 🙂
