Aircraft parts shop in Lincoln.

Evening gents.

My father in law was up in Lincoln a short while ago and went past the shop (its name eludes me!) that sells all manner of aircraft bits and pieces. He took a snap incase there was anything I wanted/needed. There isn’t but I though I’d share it here. Apparently the guy that runs it is looking to shut up shop soon.

Someone remind me of the name of the place, it’s been years since I was that way!

We have got the distinct impression, visiting the shop over the last few years, that there was no appetite to attend any of the aerojumbles any more. None of the staff are that committed and Mr. Birkett himself is infirm and quite elderly now.

I understand from the NAM Curator that they have always been supportive of NAM’s acquisition requirements.

I believe that they have also had pitches at NAM Aeroboot / Aerojumble events in the past – perhaps they need encouraging to attend in the summer! 😉

They used to be regulars at Shoreham, always kept an eye on them as they unpacked their boxes, you never knew what they had found in their store to bring along, always a gem or two

Birkett’s is great. Always go there on the Friday before Fest for a look and a poke around. The stuff in the shop you were in is only a fraction of his stock, PJ. He also has a premises across the road up the hill a bit which is absolutely stuffed with gear. He won’t let anyone except staff in there though.

Old Birkett is usually sitting in the shop passing the time of day. He can be a bit short with people (doesn’t suffer fools gladly) but is a decent chap and always open to a job-lot offer. He doesn’t get much trade these days so that makes it easier to strike a deal.

Well worth the trip to go there, even just for the experience if not to buy something. Not many of ’em left now. Just follow the main street up towards the cathedral and it’s on the right just before the steepest bit of Steep Hill.

It’s at the foot of the aptly named Steep Hill. Been there for donkeys years…
