IMHO, range is the single most decisive {and overlooked} factor in a military aircraft design, if an aircraft can’t get to a fight or lacks effective persistance once it gets there, it’s not going to be of much bearing on a situation. I beieve that range increasing measures such as IFR, drop tanks and CFTs should be seen as supplements and not substitutes for a reasonable fuel fraction. What says the forum?
