I gather someone mentioned Shackleton WR977, which is definitely still at Newark Air Museum โ€“ well it was this morning when the school group was being shown round! ๐Ÿ˜€

WR977 had two spells at Avroโ€™s Langar facility in southern Nottinghamshire.

It arrived there first in 1962 (with 1925.00 hours on the airframe) for its Phase 2 Mods, which took over a year to complete โ€“ it left on 9th April 1963.

Just over two years later WR977 left 201 Squadron on 13th July 1965 and headed back to Langar for its Phase 3 Mods, which werenโ€™t completed until May 1966 โ€“ these included the addition of the Mk10 Lulu nuclear depth charge fit.

The above details were extracted from two books about WR977 โ€“ Duty Carried Out and Dedication to Duty โ€“ signed copies can still be obtained from the Museum Shop! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I did try searching aircraft serial WR977 without any luck ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

eh, at least the five first pages (gave up after that!) of searches of ‘WR977’ come up with nothing but Avro Shackleton WR977, usually followed by Newark, and museum.

Mind you it can give rise to an intresting (!!) thread by asking here first:)

Would ‘LANGKR’ be a poorly-written “Langar” then?

Yep, Avro’s facility at Langar was where Shackleton modification (notably Mk.3 ph.III) & upgrades etc were conducted.
I’m sure T/O will be keen to see these switches!
