Aircraft Sounds on CD – wow!

Bobs recent post about the sound of 109G Black 6 reminded me of the couple of CDs of mine featuring piston aircraft.

One of them features just Black 6 for most of it – awesome. Sound includes flight from start up to shut down, including a DAT recorder from INSIDE the aircraft during start up, aeros, landing, and shut-down.

I once a collection of 3 albums called ‘Sounds of Shuttleworth’ which was brilliant. does anyone know if they appear on CD in the future?

Does this subject light anyone elses fire?

If someone’s tootling over to OSH this year, browse the flymarket and a chap sells CD’s with “The Sound of Round” in multiple versions and other similar Cd’s.

Next you need to be able to order by post or become a UK distributor!

G’day 😉

When I was a mere lad (!!) we didn’t have CD’s – just something called “vinyl” – and on this “vinyl” you used to be able to buy something called “long playing records” of the sounds of Motorbikes racing on the Isle of Man (Stanley Schofields Sound Stories if I remember correctly) – cheers – Allan

Thanks for the updates to this thread. Von perthes, I was informed a little while ago that Flightstream Productions were no longer in business, but later again I heard that the albums are now on CD at The Shuttleworth Collection.

Can any SVAS members confirm this please?

(BTW, there is a fast flypast of TF956 on one of them – sniff)

😀 Many many years ago we went to Mildenhall when they used to have the air fetes there 🙂 and this particular display day was wet [what a surprise  ].Most sensible people were huddled in marquees and stalls hiding from the weather and pretending to be really interested in the vendors products.
After a little while there was this distant but welcome noise of some piston aircraft approaching the airfield and then doing a low level beat up.Well people came flooding out of the tents and scoured the skies ,fingers pointing at the clouds ,binoculars came out as did cameras but to no avail.
The stall holder at the end of the row had set up his hi fi system and played this cd at full volume, well it convinced me to buy it.
I assume you can still get it .

Those ‘Sounds at Shuttleworth’ records were a curse!

The SVAS used to play them in the end hangar on display days, with rather good accoustics. Whilst browsing on the book stands, you would hear a fast-approaching merlin roaring towards you, so scamper outside, peering left and right to see……nothing.

Oh, how they laughed.

No singles just a nationwide tour by Lanc and the Merlins

Will the BBMF be releasing any singles from the forthcoming album?

I can just see the flight on ToTP!

The people that are responsible for Aircraft Records are good friends of mine and they were at BBMF a couple of weeks ago. Carrying out a sample recording when the flight returned from Blackpool.
They are returning next year to record material for a double CD covering all the flights aircraft.

I had a google a while back, with the aim of finding out if they’re out on CD, but came up with nothing sadly. The company address on the albums is ‘MICAM/Flightstream, 25 Lower Elmstone Drive, Tilehurst, Reading, RG3 5EB. Tel No – (0734) 428136, if anyone wants to try giving the number a bell?

RE: Aircraft Sounds on CD – wow!

Well, I of course am rather partial to the sound of four Merlins! Sadly it’s never been available on CD, but the Lincolnshire Lancaster Association have for years sold a tape called ‘Lancaster Operations On’, a great recording of PA474 going about her business, complete with crew intercom on one side, and without on the other. A great old, must-have recording!

From the same source you can get a similar tape on the Shackleton, and another superb one about some plane or other called the Vulcan?! Never heard of it…

Sorry for the relentless plugs (actually, no I’m not!!!) but you can find these tapes here-
