Aircraft tail wheel ????

Hope you knowledgable folk will be able to confirm or deny that the attached pictures show an aircraft tail wheel.

Details printed on the tyre are

“Goodyear” “Made in England” “55633” “202EG6968” “16 x 4.00”

The solid rubber tyre is indeed 16in x 4in on a 9in metal, (Magnesium ???) rim which appear to be fixed together with four rusted nuts / bolts. At the center of the rim is a hole within which can be felt a rusted up bearing.

I would of thought thought prop would of destroyed everything before the tail wheel hit it.
In level flight the tail wheel is higher

Hanna low level here Over 18s only

Much debate over the years

Bummer…

Whilst talking tail wheels, I have a friend who collects military vehicles. Some of them were used in Piece Of Cake, in which, so he says, he was a driver. Apparently, Mark Hanna flew a Spitfire so low, that he damaged a tail wheel on a truck. Does anyone know if this is true? Apparently he was supposed to be beating up the airstrip, when the truck drove across the end of the field?

Often wondered if it was true???
