After reading about the possible sale of Rafales to the UAE to replace the Mirage 2000s. I began thinking about aircraft that may have been withdrawn from service a bit prematurely.
One that comes to mind is the F-14 series, particularly F-14D. It has a radar thats still formidable today, and a long range missile that is usually stereotyped as being only good against bombers, despite success against fighter sized targets during AIM-54 trials against small drones, and in the Iran-Iraq war. Has the ability to dictate engagements, something the Super Hornet doesn’t have too much of, and also was a decent bomb truck.
