I wonder if any of the great and good in this forum can possibly help me, please??
I need to know from which aircraft this wheel and tyre originate. The wheel and tyre were given to me by a farmer in Sommervieu in Normandy whose father had farmed the land up to June 44 when part of his land was requisitioned for a 2 TAF airfield. The story is that the wheel and tyre were from a Typhoon that crash=landed there during the Normandy campaign.
To cut a long story very short, I need to confirm the provenance of this item. It is marked JF 108125 also there seems to be AHO and then some very indistinct numbers. There is also US8 in relief on the hub, there is also a large capital R . T The tyre, which has a rip in it is marked DUNLOP (Rayon) 9.50 -12.
That’s it !!

Help !!
Very many thanks to all concerned with the search for the provenance of my wheel. You did not disappoint !! Whilst it wasn’t exactly the result that I was hoping for, at least the mystery has been resolved.
Thanks to everyone !!

Help!!
Just taken advantage of the sunshine (remember that stuff??)to look for more markings. The AOH Number is AOH2016/2 and the overall diameter of the unit (tyre grossly underinflated) is 36″”. There also appears to be the reference 27A on the tyre wall.
Thanks in anticipation !!

See if you can get the AHO number off it. At first glance, it looks more like Tiger Moth to me than anything else!

Hi
Sommervieu was B.8 airfield, 400, 414 & 430 Sqn’s.
My guess
maybe a Mustang I, as the hub pattern looks similar.
cheers
Jerry

Help!!
No, not trying to sell it on E.bay or anywhere else. I was in correspondence with the legend that is bombphoons about Polish Aircrew Wings and I mentioned to him about the wheel. I sent him the same info as here and he told me that it wasn’t Typhoon related. Since I have fondly cherished the thought that I have a genuine piece of Normandy Typhoon for all these years, I am now naturally curios to know what on earth it IS from

First post, looking for provenance.
Are you trying to sell it on fleabay???
If he is, then is that an issue?

If so, then that’s remarkable forward planning. Biggles8 joined the forum over a year ago and, despite his lack of activity here, is a rank 4 registered user!
