Any one willing to ID this? Saw this at the museum but too late to ask anyone, and no label or description on it.

Thought I’d better justify myself!
The spar web is wrong for Hurricane outer wings – there is a zig-zag lattice effect on Hurricane metal-wing outer section spars while these are ‘solid’. The spar web does look right for hurricane centre-section, EXCEPT that on a Hurricane there would be tubular booms above and below this web, and in between centre-section front and rear spars there were not ribs with lightening holes as here, but instead a network of tubes.
Also, the airfoil section is wrong, and I don’t recognise those access panels. Not sure they are gun access panels, Graham, as there are no visible gun ports in that section of leading edge.
Not brilliantly helpful, saying what it isn’t! But it avoids red herrings 🙂

My initial thought also was typhoon [ hopefully] but those rounded corner gun access panels are the major clue in my opinion. [ a bit un-british perhaps?]

I would love to say it was Typhoon…unfortunately I am pretty sure it isn’t. If it were Typhoon it would have to be a section outboard of the dihedral as the wing root spars are of a girder type construction. The large gap in picture 2 seems to be where a fuel tank should be and at this point, if Typhoon, it would have evidence of the inboard cannon. The rear spar is not ‘boxed’ in like this one it should have a series of holes like the rib on display. Finally the access panels on the top do not seem to match a Typhoon. Having said what I think it isn’t I have no idea what it could be…being slightly biased towards them I would love to be proved wrong and find out it is Typhoon. Anyone have other pictures of it showing different angles?

Thats all I have Bruce, unless someone else has been there and taken photos.

Not Hurricane – and Beermat would know!
Any better pics anywhere?

same here.

My initial thought on waking up is ‘Hurricane’. Mrs Beermat hates that.
But that’s no Hurricane section.. Got me stumped.

I did see other bits and pieces inside, but they were from several different types. No doubt someone will recognise the design soon:)
Damn good museum though!

Didnt see this when I was there about 2 years ago and there was some stuff around the back just about visable but not near enough to be examined. Did you see the various bits and pieces inside the building? Undercart , engine etc.
