Airfield find – any ideas?

I recently found what I thought was a triangular piece of aircraft related aluminium on an old RAF base.
After cleaning it up I’m puzzled by what is on it. An ornate ‘George’ is engraved along with ‘Made in Gt Britain’ and a ‘Patent App For ******/50’, which is unfortunately on an area corroded away.
I had the fanciful thought that ‘George’ might be a brand name of an autopilot mechanism but seems rather unlikely! Any ideas as to what it could be?
