Airfield piccies

Had thought !.Maybe a usefull one as well !

A lot of readers on these forums are GA pilots, and pilots being pilots, they probably like to visit other airfileds instead of bimbling round in the local circuit.

I managed to blag a backie in a Super Cub the other day around Thruxton and as is the norm, I had a camera with me and used it. Seems like this might be the ideal forum to post piccies of your local field from the circuit to give other potential visitors a ‘real time’ piccy of the area.

You could include ‘local knowledge’ as notes….for instance in the last shot, note the telephone cables in the hedge (you dont want to undershoot here !) and beware of the traffic on the circuit, it can be a distraction.

Over to you

Luton

An old picture of Luton in the mid 80’s to compare with the previous pic. It still had two grass runways then, and circuit traffic, including me.

Old Buckenham

Landing on 25 at OB, the pattern of the old wartime runways is still visible (just).

Not sure if this is much use, but I snapped this one on my way out to Canada from LHR as a BA passenger. Western side of the UK. Any ideas as to where it is. (No, I don’t know. 😉 )

It’s usually to do with the ongoing change in magnetic variation.

Moggy

I know that’s the usual reason(as with Edinburgh) but the magnetic variation here has not varied that much in the time the hard runway has been down + they did not make any changes re the grass runways at the same time

If I knew how to post pictures I would, HOW?

Select the Reply button, or the Quote one if you wish to quote someone (but do edit out the irrelevant stuff).
Do not use the Quick Reply button.

Then scroll down below the text box, into which you are typing.

You will see another box called Additional Options . Click on the Manage Attachments box. If you cannot work out what to do from there. Give up! Take up knitting or start an nail polishing emporium. Just keep away from computers!

Why did they renumber the runways? because it was not uncommon for pilots to call finals for 02 or 20 and the land the other way

Moggy, thanks for that view of Kidlington. I only get to see the runways from ground level in the dark. Why did they renumber the runways? because it was not uncommon for pilots to call finals for 02 or 20 and the land the other way

Kulusuk in Greenland , and you were stuck there when one of the motors blew a pot . 😉

Oh, some of you DO read other magazines (other listings magazines are available . . .)

I suppose I’ll have to start getting more obscure . . .

Another four:

Coventry 05
Ostende 26
Midden Zeeland 09 (Dog leg approach to avoid the campsite. The threshold is just beyond the river)
Schaffen Diest – downwind 24 (from an AN-2)
