Below are 3 8th Airforce airfields in East Anglia, all taken in September last year, anyone want to have a go at identifying them?

I’m no pilot, but I’ve been involved with vintage aircraft in one way and another for 19 years now. The Mustang is owned by a friend of mine and is truly beautiful and a credit to the owner.
As for the Yak 11, it’s a very under rated aircraft which deserves more recognition and a type which I have been fortunate enough to have been involved in the restoration of a couple of them.

I think someone should build a ‘new’ F-6D so you don’t have to lug the camera around with you!

Some of Janie herself wouldn’t go amiss Yak. 🙂

Number one is indeed Thorpe Abbotts, just number two to get now.

I’d guess that 2 is Shipdham?

You will realise that CAA rules preclude the ‘advertising’ of shared flights.
If it didn’t I would mention here that anybody who fancied a cost share flight over the old airfields of East Anglia should contact me by private message.
However since the rules forbid this you shouldn’t.

For anyone that uses FS2002, you can get scenery based on the ‘millenium map’ aerial photographic survey of the UK. I have spent many hours bumbling around over East Anglia using ‘Airfields of the Eighth’ as a guide, and it was very interesting to see the contrast between those airfields that have remained much the same since the book was produced 25 years ago, and those that have all but disappeared now.

And 1 is Thorpe Abbotts
