Airfields etc. in Brittany

We’re off out to Brittany for a few days and will have some time to spare for a look around. Does anyone know of any disused airfields, also scrapyards or museums which may contain anything interesting? It would be interesting to hear what may be in the area.

Were the remains of an ex FAA F6F not dragged up off the coast some years ago? Where was this found? (or was this further around the coast off Spain?)

Thanks,

George

Have a look at www.anciens-aerodromes.com. I think that you should find here most of what you seek.

Parfait! Merci, monsieur.:)

Can’t help with scrap yards but you’ll find all the major aviation museums in Brittany listed at www.bretagne-aviation.fr with hyperlinks to the websites of those which have them. The museum at la Baule is particularly good. Also if you want to go a little further south, I recommend highly the museum at Angers. As to disused airfields, it seems that all that is on the web relates to disused airfields in northern France – but maybe there are good historical reasons for this! However I’ll make a few enquiries and post again if I come up with anything to help you.

As an extension to this can I ask if anyone knows of airfields or airfield relics from either conflict in Pas de Calais?

I flew into St Malo with Ryanair in August and there was an engineless DC3 there, plus other more modern civil planes either being scrapped or repaired. Most where F-27’s I think, but through the gloom I think I saw a DH Buffalo.

The DC3 is visible from the terminal access road and appeared to be in USAF markings.
