A work colleague of mine, a very high quality model maker [‘Hangartime’ on Airfix Tribute forum], is creating a model of my Uncle’s aircraft, for me. My Uncle served with 619 squadron and he and his fellow crew lost their lives when their aircraft, Lancaster EE147 PG-P was shot down over Peenemunde on 17/18 August 1943.
We have no photograph of EE147 but know that the aircraft was built in the same batch as the well photographed EE139 – the original Phantom of the Ruhr.
Although the model is not being super detailed (for example we are not going to Vacform glazing and all the see through implications that would bring) it is nevertheless intended to be a reasonable facsimile of an aircraft from that production run (see pic below of EE139) therefore for example … needle point props, full fuselage windows, and gross details like pitot tube and mass balancers etc.
I will provide a running record of the build here. cheers Don

Further progress, canopy framing (painted decals then micro-something to seal it), weathering and low-sheen/matt. Transperancies sitting in place, not yet fitted. Finishing (adjusting sheen and weathering etc.) and detailing to come (dingy hatch, aerials, pitot, etc., etc.). Also remanufacturing .303 guns in scale from sprue.

Sanding down the fuselage and wings, needle-pointing the props, tidying up undercart, etc. Then initial painting.
