Airfix 1:72 Concorde

It’s been a year or more since Airfix released their leviathon Concorde kit,and ever since I’ve been contemplating buying one. One thing that worries me slightly is that I’ve yet to see any pictures or build reviews of the finished model, which is surprising considering how widely the kit has sold. Does anyone know how well the kit builds or have any pics of the finished article?

Hi guys

I’m about half way through “The Beast” and honestly it is worth buying just to see the size!

hey Ant Harrington,

I’ve just e-mailed you the article @ the e-mail address you’ve provided, they are jpegs, and should be pretty clear, if not I’ll save them as PDF’s, the only thing is, they might be too big to e-mail.

Let me know if it is all ok.

best regards

Haven’t seen any Virgin decals, but he did manage to get his hands on a set of BOAC decals, so he did one like that, it looked pretty good, but it’s at his house and I don’t have a photo.

Was weird seeing a Concorde with a blue nose!

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Lovemigs,if it wouldn’t be too much hassle I’d love to see that Scale Modeller article,it’s just the kind of thing I’m looking for. My address is…

Thanks for the info and pics Delta,I see what’s meant by the ‘crap’ fit of the fuselage bits! Lovely model(s) though.
Melv,I think there was a Virgin Atlantic after-market decal sheet released for the Revell and Airfix 1:144 scale kits, but none in 1:72 as far as I’m aware.
Thanks again all. 🙂

It’s also not to good where the body parts join together, the fit is crap (my other half’s words not mine) I think he has built about 5 so far, they do require some fillering where they join. Check all fits before you glue!

He also said that the red tail decals are the easiest ones to apply.

We also had one do a test flight and the nose doesn’t cope very well with this.

Consensus seems to be that it has potential, but was a little disappointing given the hype. Seems like it can be built into a fantastic model, but with a little more work than a Tamigawa – main problems are fit around the engines and the nose tilt mechanism is gimmicky and too weak to work well without breaking.

Does anyone do speculative Virgin decals for it?

Fine scale modeler magazine has done a review few months ago and there’s pics.
I’ve got the mag, but not sure if I’m allowed to scan the article and put it here, I can perhaps e-mail it to you?
