That looks good.

I wish I’d thought to sand the wings down a bit before sticking all the bits together, although I think once I’ve slapped some filler on the offending areas, it might not be too bad. The fuselage has a whopping great hole in the top of it (in the fuel tank) so that will need some attention!

I will, however, remember it for the Spitfire XVI (which is the low-back rather than the high-back).

Im by no means a modeling expert but I know what you mean about the Airfix MkIX/XVI, thats one of the reasons I cut the tail off the Airfix MkVIII and attached it to the MkXVI, at least that sorts the over thick rudder problem that the MkIX/XVI kit has. I also made the wings thinner by sanding the insides before joining together, not perfect but better. He’s the XVI as it stands at the moment.

Very nice!

I’m just putting together my first 1/48th Airfix Spitfire, the Mk.IX. Have to say that I’m not massively impressed with it. Some bad panel gaps (wing roots and underside in particular), not to mention a whopping great hole in the fuel tank cover from a bad moulding! 🙁

Mk1 Done, its not perfect but the best i could do until my modeling techniques become better. I’ve managed to get the Airfix Hood to fit, had to file it down and steam it to make fit slided back. Anyways its all OOB

Mk1 nearly there, i wanted to fit the canopy hood slided back, the Airfix item seems too thick to do this even after sanding down, looks like ill have to buy an after market item.

That’s always been my complaint about Airfix kits, that and their terrible decals.

I added the kit decals after a coat of floor polish then sealed them in with some more. Ive tried to weather it the best i can, most likely show up better after a coat of matt varnish

Looking good. The B-scheme always makes for an interesting alternative.

Mk1 painted up, i inteneded to use Hannants acrylic paints for everything but due to the airbrush braking i had to do the dark green from a Tamiya spray can. Now ready for a coat of floor polish.

I’ve got the Airfix Club edition Spitfire XVI to build. I’ve heard the decals aren’t great, but that’s not a big deal as I’ve got a couple of alternative options.
