Over the years, I’d wanted to visit the Air Force Museum in Dayton, but for whatever reason, never got around to it until yesterday when an old Army buddy asked if I wanted to drive down there, saying it was only a couple of hours south of the border crossing at Windsor/Detroit.
The most impressive part of touring the amazing collection of aircraft was soaking in the massive size of the B-52 sitting in the SouthEast Asia hangar with not-so-small-in-themselves fighter aircraft sitting under the BUFF’s long, droopy wings. I’ve seen many a B-52 sitting on ramps but never before in an enclosed hangar with airplanes parked under its wings. Impressive! Now, there were other large aircraft on display including a B-36, but none as impressive as the B-52.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the number of British (and a couple of Canadian) aircraft housed in the collection, among them a Hurricane, and a couple of Spitfires. And of course, my favorite, the D9.
Here are a few images.
