Airline Onboard Earphones

Hi all. I know this is not the best place but I did not know where else to ask.

I am looking for an adaptor for all airliners (if one exists) so I can buy a decent set of earphones. I want the large cans type earphones, is there an adaptor available for these.

Thank you for any help.

If you buy a pair of noise-canceling headphone (Bose, Sony, Panasonic), you will get all the needed different connecting jacks including the one pictured in this thread for use on airplane.

Alternatively, you can just ask in a Bose store and ask them if they could sell you the jack pictured above. That’s what I did in San Francisco last month because I had forgotten mine on the plane (they gave me two, free of charge).

Well, as far as I know, you just have 2 types of connectors: either the 2 prong style, like you depicted (common on “older” interiors), or a simple 3,5 jack, which can be found on refitted planes, with AVOD or similar entertainement systems.

Headsets like the Bose noise cancelling ones usually come with these adapters, as well as one for the larger jack types like you’ll see on stereos.
When flying international routes, the airlines usually also give you the 2 prong -> 3,5 adapter, along with cheap headsets.

Thank you for your interest PMN (and again for the pic help last Christmas) I am doing some research for somebody else who does a lot of flying. He has trouble with the standard earphones due to his hearing aids. The problem being comfort, hence the looking at the bigger type. Also using different airlines means differnt jacks.

Any suggestions welcome.

What kind of headphones are you after? Something like Sennheiser HD-25’s?

I don’t know of an adaptor that’s generally available but you could probably make one easily enough with a few bits from Maplin’s and a soldering iron!
