Airline Security

Does anyway know if hold luggage is screened after it is checked in? I assume there must be some sort of explosives detection but is it x rayed for weapons? Although a terrorist would not have access to the bag during the journey, it would be possible to retrieve weapons from a suitcase in the arrivals hall at destination whilst still in a secure area.

In the U.S. now, they screen all of them, even check most of them in front of you. Nowadays, you check in and they tag your luggage. Then you take it (not the ticketing agent) to one of the TSA people and they put it through a machine. If you only have a carry-on, you avoid this, and your carry on gets screened as usual.

Depending on the airport but they are on a random basis.
