I’ve just been looking at eBay and spotted a Schleicher Ka4 Rhonlerche Vintage Sailplane for sale.
Of more interest to me is an airliner front fuselage section in the same barn in the background. Ideas?

That used to be maintained at Luton by McAlpine and then MAGEC. For some reason I remember the captain was Mr Pepper when I last saw it depart.

Ex Ferranti and BAe System Avionics, Edinburgh. Used for TIALD thermal-imaging and laser-targetting trials.
Bloody hell, when it was repainted and stripped I had the odious job of removing all the old and then reapplying Thiokol to every skin joint and faying in every skin where it overlapped each other, we didn’t have a Thiokol mixer so I had to do it by hand then tape and pipe every bloody seam on it and there were lots.
They were telling me when they were doing tests outside the hangar at Ferranti Edinburgh they were getting a ghost Ferranti in reverse on the screens and couldn’t figure out why…… it eventually dawned on them that the TIALD pod was picking up the heat difference in the word Ferranti painted on the outside of the far wall of the metal hangar as it was painted in white and the hangar was black, so it was seeing it through the closed doors and on the other side of the far wall.

Thanks. I hadn’t seen the advert for this also. Interesting offering!

Looks like a Jetstream George.
Ahem – on second thought – it looks like an HS/BAE 125 🙂
