Airliners pictures… well, not really

Im not doubting your work in any way, its superb!!! i was talking in genera,l everytime i see an A340 be it photo, video or in the steel the engines look much larger than when the plane 1st entered service i’ve even looked at some old photos of mine and compared them to recent 1s.
Out of interest how do you make the models what software do you use and what spec of pc is required?

The A340-500/600 use much larger engines than the original (200/300) series are ‘powered’ by…

To be honest, living in Toulouse, I don’t see any interest making Boeing’s aircraft…:D
Seriously, I like the Triple Seven, which is to me the best looking Boeing. But I don’t have it as a 3d model, and don’t plan to model it right now. But who knows…
As fas as engines are concern, I’m quite confident in my modelling. They are Trent500 on these A340-500/-600, the fan diameter in only 7in less than the GE90 (116 vs 123in) so yes, it can look big. But don’t forget that point of view and focal length may be unusual so can’t compare to what is perceived as “normal”.;)

EDIT : actually, 116″ is the size of the Trent900 engine I work on, not the size of the Trent500. Trent500 fan is 97″ wide, to be compared to the 123″ of the GE90… Sorry for the mistake.

Simply stunning images, although the Aeroflot is now a reality rather than a possibillty still a gorgeous picture though.Do you do any other aircraft apart from the A330+A340 im sure we’d all enjoy a few 777s and 747s.
On another point are the engines on the A340 getting bigger? I remember when it 1st entered service they were tiny compared to the rest of the plane now they’re huge look almost as big as the 777s units

Thanks!

@Cloud9 : considering that I still have few more images in mind, let’s say that commission work is not to be considered in a near future.
Nevertheless, what were you about to ask for?:)

Hi Steph, check your PM’s!:)

Given the quite superb quality of these images, I’m happy to make an exception in this case.

However, this does not set a precedent for all and sundry to post PC-generated flight simulator images or airline liveries in here.

Unless they’re this good, or better… 😉

Thanks

GA

What about my crayon picture though… ? 😀

Hope you like it for what it is, not as a quizz about the how-to!;)

Indeed, it’s CG planes over real backdrop, no mistake. I do believe the quality of FlightSim atmosphere simulation is not good enough yet to compare to real views of clouds etc.

The intend is, as I said, to propose you photorealistic pictures of up-to-come liveries on A340 and A330, and exotic situations/pt of view. I’m trying to push the photorealistic thing way further than what Boeing and Airbus can propose on their website.:p

By the way, have a look at my website to see other pics and how-to…

Was a program like Rhino used?

Yes, Rhino 1 then 2 was used to build the models. Then I import the surfaces into the old version of Max I use to render. Setup and lighting is done for each pic so colors, point of view, sun azimuth and elevation are correct. Final compositing is done on Photoshop6.

I don’t have a problem with it as such, it’s just that this has always been a photography forum. You know that as well as I do!

Nice one Steph, but looks to my a Graphic design program did the planes but it was put onto real pics, like the Royal Jordanian A346.

That’s what it looks like to me, but i could be wrong.

Yip looks like an industrial CGI programme, superimposed over photographic backdrops. Too good for flight sim, to render those as animations would require a lot more processing than the average home PC can offer (currently)…;)

Ahem… we have a photographic forum, and this is the “airline images” forum, roll with it my good man… 😉

Now then, I’m off to dig out my crayola crayoned shot of the Pope’s Sikorsky S-61 landing in Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park, wot I done in primary 6 !!! :p:D

What’s wrong with having them in a forum named ‘Airline Images’ then ?:D

Maybe because these are not FlightSim! 😉

You still haven’t told me! 😉
