Airline's liability for stolen luggage, disastrous trip!!! (US Airways)

Howdy,

I regrettably flew on 7/21/07 from Boston to Brussels via Philadelphia on US Airways. The flight to Brussels was cancelled at 2:30 AM on 7/22 and US Airways mishandled my luggage (no luggage until I arrived in Brussels). It did arrive in Brussels on 7/23/07. I was forced to pay $ 331.00 for a hotel room and lost the money I prepaid for a hotel in Brussels for the night of 7/22. A US Airways representative in Philadelphia told the passengers on my flight that all hotel rooms were booked and there was nothing they could do for us. Their emergency hotline told us the same thing. I was easily able to get a room at the Philadelphia Marriott, again for $ 331.00 for the night.

The trip continued from Brussels to Dakar, Senegal via Lisbon on Tap Airlines. The flights were fine on Tap, but the seat pitch, ouch!

On 8/2/07 I returned to Boston flying on Tap from Dakar to Lisbon and connected to a US Airways flight to Philadelphia. When I arrived in Philadelphia my luggage did not appear. I continued to Boston where I made a baggage claim for three large suitcases full of samples. Twelve days later, the luggage still did not arrive and US Airways, or as they are known in the US, Useless Airways, had no information. On Tuesday, 8/14/07 I received a telephone call from the Bourne, Massachusetts police department asking me if I was missing any property? My luggage, two of three bags, was found by the police along a highway. I let US Airways know and they picked up the bags. The third bag appears to be gone. It appears very likely that a US Airways employee stole the bags. Regardless, US Airways was responsible for getting the luggage to me safely. Again, the bags were reported lost in Philadelphia and never cleared US Customs.

International baggage claim limits are 1,000 SDR’s or approximately $ 1,560.00. The value of my luggage, which contained commercial samples, was approximately $ 2,600.00. Because of what happened, I have to return to Senegal to purchase new samples. I am traveling back on 9/21/07 on a real airline this time.

What do you think US Airways owes me?

Thanks,

Bill

WOW, and people over here have the nerve to complain about BA’s reputation for loosing bags lol, sad luck mate, surely there must be more you can claim from them, as you put your trust in the airline that they are going to look after your bags from Point A to Point B

Sad indeed but pretty common. It seems that the regulation in the EU is now a bit better for the customer though.
I kinda remember but in 2000 a flight from Brussels to CDG , the case took 2 weeks to come to us !!!!!
