airlines which go bust or cease ops??

hey,

i know this may sound stupid but from reading a post a question poped into my mind!!

When an airline goes bust or stops ops and they have aircraft in the air do they make the aircraft land or let it continue on flying??

if they re-direct the aircraft to another airport do they not have to pay more landing fees?

From personal experience, the aircraft is allowed to continue to it’s destination. It is then grounded. First signs are usually strong rumours. Out of the number I’ve seen, only one paid cash for fuel and this was after they had lost there jets, so the cat was already out the bag!

Which leads me to ask, what’s the story behind the all white 767 at BHX with the proverbial snowplough under the tail?

That’s the Slovak / Midland Airways machine. It’s quite a complex set-up, and because all the parties involved could not agree, the authoreties at BHX ‘detained’ the a/c. However, all has now been sorted out and the a/c should operate it’s first flight tonight to Amritsar and return on Sunday.

Would it not be an AV8 B767?

I suspect that the flight continues, but the machine is impounded as soon as it comes to a stop.

First signs of an airline in trouble are…
1. Paying for fuel with cash
2. Snowploughs parked behind aircraft in the middle of summer.
