The crash in Gabon got me thinking about major crashes this year. I have a feeling that there aren’t many, so in that aspect it is a good year for aviation. Do I have a correct feeling about this.

Does this not prove that most of these accidents are from 3rd world countries, and that this is due to poor control over maintenance? Not many of our well known majors/charters have had any incidents. So all in all a good year.
Not in all cases….just b/c there is a crash in a small country does not mean that it was a mntc issue…many variables resulted in some of these events..

well in year-over-year through 5 months of 2004 it is hard to predict what is to come but if statisctics can be of any use (oh my GOD I CAN use it!) we are on pace for 28.8 this year…which is 3 more than 2003….regardless of the stats….God for bid should any other airliner be lost..
