Airport bomb hoax charge denied

Mr Wilhelm was arrested after an incident at Terminal One
An engineer has appeared in court to deny making a bomb hoax at an airport.
Axel Wilhelm, 45, from the Stasse area of Munich, was arrested in January after an incident at Manchester Airport.

On Friday he appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, and pleaded not guilty to “communicating a false bomb hoax”.

He was detained at terminal one at the airport after allegedly telling staff he had bombs and knives in his luggage.

Mr Wilhelm works for engineering giant Siemens and is a regular visitor to its plant in Greater Manchester.

He spoke only to enter his plea and to say he understood proceedings. The case was adjourned and Mr Wilhelm will face trial on 24 June.
