I’m always wondering about going places to take good aircraft photos and consequently wonder about the best hotels and accomodation affording the best views of airports and flightpaths.
There have been some great shots taken on beaches and from hotel balconies etc. So where are these places and what’s the accomodation called ?
Let’s get an international list of the best “plane” places to book into by your nearest airport.
I’ll start with mine, GLA. The airport Holiday Inn outside the main terminal has great views facing North onto the airport and offers pretty good photo and spotting opportunities at all times of the day. It’s about ten storey’s high, so you can see right over the terminal to the domestic and international ramps as well as unrestricted views of the runway in both directions.
Now what about those great Lanzarote hotels ? Let’s have some info from you guys. 😀

The Renaissance Heathrow is great if you can get a room at the back of the hotel looking onto the runway, obviously the higher floors are better!
They’re always happy to accommodate requests for rooms overlooking the runway – these are actually the rooms that many people ask not to be in.
You can earn miles for many major airlines by staying there too 🙂

Also, there is a fairly new Holiday Inn on the Bath Road near the BA Compass Centre, it also has some rooms with a good view of the approach and touchdown at LHR.

Hi,
You could try the Royal Hotel at Kerkyra (Corfu) – Ioannis Kapodistrias (CFU / LGKR). It is very close to the runway, and it is also very cheap to stay there. It is shown on the picture below.

Hi,
As well as the Raddisson SAS Hotel at MAN you could also try the “Airport Hotel” near Terminal 3. You can get great views of Approaches and Take off rolls from here.
Thanks

In Lanzarote, the Beatriz playa is extremely close to the airport. You may have seen my thread, ‘lanzarote holiday report’ which had photos from the beach, well the Beatriz playa is on that beach. From my balcony at another hotel I could get the registrations of the aircraft with binoculars, and the Beatriz playa was twice as close. This red arrow on the photo shows the Beatriz playa. However, the Beatriz Playa is 4 star and is very expensive, the hotel where I stayed in was in an excellent location, was a nice clean hotel and was a good price, it was called the Morro Mar appartments. The yellow arrow shows the Morro Mar appartments.
