Indeed, a very good point.
Trains are also much cheaper to run in many ways and can often take more passengers. But the rail network is plagued by all sorts of issues.

If the rail system were as reliable as air travel, I’d be taking the train to Leeds this weekend, rather than flying BMI
Alas, the rail network still needs a lot of work.

Ironic isn’t it? Britain gave the world the train, but we’ve got one of the worst systems in the western world. LOL

I actually consider taking the train for inter-city jaunts more and more these days. Given the extra airport security, increased check in times, not being able to take all your bits and pieces with you after a job of work etc etc it’s certainly very refreshing to finish work in certain UK cities and catch the next mainline train back home. Especially with the speeds some of them can go these days…

Even more so in cases like the other week when I was refused passage by Easyjet at Luton because my ‘good to go’ photographic ID suddenly wasn’t ‘good enough to go back with’ !!!

It’ll be interesting to see how the Shuttle services fare against new high speed Scotland-London rail services in years to come ?

Yes Sandy but think of the reduction in domestic flights and their effluents with all these fine, point to point ‘intra-airport’ rail services coming on ? 😉

Branson wasn’t daft when he put his name on the side of the trains, mibbe you could do Pendolino high speed train template in BA livery ? (lol) :diablo:

Ah yes, but that would fly (no pun intended) in the face of new government ideas of discouraging us from air travel.

Its a vicious circle

Ok guys this thread is getting too off topic and will be closed with a single more off topic thread. If you have any problems with the moderation of the forum(s) please direct your comments to a Moderator or Webmaster

There are at least 3 people on this forum just as guilty of Trolling, yet you ignore them and single out Joe? Thats victimization and IMO, just as bad as trolling.

So far here, all he has done is post little factoids and then defends them when someone inevitably cannot accept what he is saying and instead of gracefully suggesting something else, they post trolling comments.
Alright, Joe doesn’t help the cause by trolling back, but initialy his threads here have been posted for informational purposes.

The Mods are doing the right job. They, unlike you, are not letting anything from other forums allow them to judge him.

As they should not!!, they should judge him by his posting HERE…which is nothing short of trolling or flame baiting. I am not singling Curry out here, there are other trolls for sure,BUT, HE started this thread, with valid (if unsubstantiated)points peppered with flame bait, if that is not the sign of a true troll at work, what is?? Do you honestly believe that a troublemaker banned from EVERY reputable forum he joins posts here innocently??
As GA said trolls get ignored/banned and move to the next available platform, exactly as he has done in Key,he gets a warning about his conduct, disappears into a hole for a few months then returns and starts all over again!! and as can be seen, all the Moderator intervention posts lately have been centred around him/his posts!
As i said earlier if someone starts flame baiting in a MODERATED forum, then the mods should moderate!! 99.9% of posters in here are decent, and do not wish undesirable trolls/flame baiters being allowed to spoil their forum
Again NOT a dig at the mods, merely my own opinion that they should ban ALL those whose only input to Key is to cause unrest.Am sure i speak for the majority in not wanting to read a thread which looks interesting, till you open it and find a load of nonsense!! The title of the forum is “Commercial Aviation” not “Flamebait post forum”

No but as part of a coherent, national integrated public transport policy it would make a lot of sense. 😉

Throwing my tuppence in here, as it seems that for some strange reason any thread Silver Snapper starts/participates ends up with a MOD warning….
If the MODs are aware of trolls ,why not simply ban them?? unfortunately Key is the “more productive waters” as he is banned from many other fora strangely enough for causing conflict in EVERY post he made, sound familiar??
Sorry do not see the point in a moderated forum of just hoping a troll will get bored and leave! what exactly is the role of moderators that don’t moderate??
Not having a go at the MODs (i see that thread is already happening on General Discussion) they do a great thankless job, and as human, make mistakes, and IMO allowing trolls free run of the forum is a mistake.

Some very sound advice indeed from Kaplan Dig.

If people didn’t rise to their bait, most practitioners of the trolling arts would pack up their tackle and seek more productive waters.

This thread contains a substantive discussion of some interest, and it will not be allowed to degenerate in the same way as the “Passenger Figures” thread.

If this means that some of you have to take an enforced holiday from posting in here, then so be it. Why should the majority of members have their enjoyment spoiled by the actions of one or two who appear to believe that this site is their own private playground?

Respect one another!

Did any one know that there are early plans to link NCL onto a main railway line??
