It is happening too frequently in the UK. We’re on of the countries complaining about it most and we can’t even do the job properly and set an example for other countries!
A reporter working for Meridian TV News (Mike Pearse) flew with BMI British Midland from London Heathrow to Glasgow. In his hand luggage was a toy gun and a pair of scissors.
He was simply testing the airline and BAA and complained of how the BMI check-in staff failed to ask if anyone else had handled his luggage, if he had sharp objects and other basic security questions.
A camera followed him from a distance so the test was not ruined and he boarded his flight with what could have been a lethal weapon and a pair of scissors. He could have quite easily caused harm to his fellow passengers. If this would have been the case, BAA would have been in sh*t!

RE: Airport Security Fails (AGAIN!)
News on security on UK is too very common now. I dont think things will improve much until they get a blow.

Sorry!
Only realised my mistake after watching the report later last night! Got the right country though. 🙂

RE: Airport Security Fails (AGAIN!)
T5, it was a bmi flight to Embra, not Glasgow.
(sorry, that’s Edinburgh for all you not fluent in Glaswegian)

RE: Airport Security Fails (AGAIN!)
Something is very wrong in the UK. Security is not good at all. I’m not a security expert, but I could observe security procedures and criticise the obvious flaws until the cows came home. If even I can see the faults, then a really determined terrorsits will detect hundreds of flaws very easily.
Also, if something such as this did happen, BAA would be bankrupt overnight. Can you imagine the £0000000’s in damages all the victims relatives’ would seek?
Solution: hire a hard core of a few hundred former spies and employ them to break the security measures. Like an antivirus company employing former hackers.
It is disressing that despite all the “security surcharges” on our tickets, security is still as bad as it ever was. Who’s pockets are we lining?
