I have just got back from a weekend in Rome flying Easyjet from Gatwick to Ciampino – Ciampino Airport – What a grade A1 dump. So overcrowded it made Heathrow and Gatwick last weekend look deserted. rubbish facilities, understaffed, dirty. The one possible saving grace would have been watching aircraft but you can hardly see anything from departures. It was also my first trip on Easyjet and it has made me question whether the hassle of going on low cost airlines to obscure airports to save money is worth the hassle. The crowning glory was when four yobs produced a football in the departures area and started kicking it around causing everyone to clear the area around them causing even worse overcrowding. Nobody fancied challenging them, least of all your humble correspondent. If anyone fancies going to Rome, take my advice and go to Fiumicino.

A shame you had an unpleasant experience, i have found Ciampino to be an OK airport, somewhat stuck in the 60’s,yes, but, does what an airport is there for, getting from a to b ,To be fair to Easyjet, they do at least go the CITY you are wanting to fly to..unlike a certain other locos majority of destinations!, and CIA is actually nearer the city than FCO(a cheaper and shorter = less scary, taxi ride) I personally would rather fly for a fifth of a BA/AZ fare to a closer if less pleasant airport, after all,an airport to a traveller, is merely a bus stop in their trip (IMO of course)
