Just got the new Airshow mag. I’m very disappointed. The articles about U.K display acts are very brief and half the mag is wasted on international airshows. I don’t go to foreign airshows and have no interest reading about them. When the mag 1st came out which i think was about 1984 it had a lot of info about the U.K airshow scene and the acts available. There was only about 4 pages dedicated to international airshows which wouldn’t bother me so much but after paying £4 to read about whats going on in the U.S or in Oz, and very little about whats going on over here is a bit much. I have already stopped getting Flypast as there is so little in it of interest to me, it now looks like i’ll have to stop getting the one mag i do look forward to reading.
I know that like Flypast, it is told be sold abroad. So why can they not make an issue to cater for them and then have one issue dedicated to the U.K.

What i ment about the mag iin 1984 was that it contained lots of info about the aircraft and pilots on the U.K circuit. The latest edition wastes half the mag on international airshows. My point is that i don’t want to read about overseas airshows, i just want to know what is on over here and who will be taken part. If the U.S.A need to find out what airshows they have on let them have their own magazine.

We’ve got to remember that there are a lot of differences between now and 1984 – defence budgets have been slashed, airfields / military bases have closed, there’s no real need to show of our military might like we used to, safety regulations have been progressively tightened (rightly so in my opinion), and not least, there’s a war on. Personally, I’m amazed Waddington’s on this year. As for which airshow’s I’ll attend this year; Legends, Children in Need at Gransden, Rougham (I’m hooked now!), and one at Old Warden. None of the big commercial ones, can’t be ar$ed. 🙂

Let’s be honest, the UK airshow scene is a tenth that of 1984. There’s very little that’s new or interesting, I’m surprised Key committed to the special at all this year!
