Does anyone know details of a aerobatic plane crash at an airshow in the us? I just caught the last couple of seconds of a video clip of it on the news at lunch.
Thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of the pilot! 🙁
Just found this on google….
SANTA FE, NM – Friends of the pilot from Parker who was killed while performing at an airshow this weekend remember him as a risk taker, but someone who only did so with a well thought out plan in mind.
Richard Bobbitt, 46, was a married father of two, and United Airlines pilot. His Hobby was flying his Russian built aerobatics plane in airshows.
On Saturday, while performing at an airshow in Santa Fe, New Mexico, he was attempting a maneuver known as the “Hammerhead,” when he failed to recover and plummeted to the ground.
His friends say he was the last pilot they thought would have a fatal crash.
“Rick’s approach has always been do it right, do it within all the safety margins, and if everything’s not perfect, stop,” says longtime friend Gary Patton.

I can only say i feel for his family at this time.
We can easily forget the risks involved in “unlimited” aerobatic aircraft,They are well designed for the job they do but things can and do go wrong just like they do with other Aircraft.
