Airshow Rixheim Habsheim, Mulhouse, France 11-09-2016

This was the second air show I went to whilst in Germany and France between 08-09-2016 and 12-09-2016, the other show being Hahnweide.

I was disappointed at first the aircraft were flying quite far away from the crowd line which for a French show (or for that matter a show in the UK) is unusual.

However, it became increasingly apparent that the reason for this was that the flight path of commercial aircraft coming in to land at Basel airport in Switzerland took them over and just behind the front of the crowd line at the air show down to as low as about 350 meters. The majority of the aircraft were Easyjet but there was one 747 lowering it’s undercarriage on approach to landing.

The aircraft at the show were also landing and taking off quite far away for the same reason.

There was a mid day break of about two hours during which the sun went behind the crowd line and the aircraft came a little closer though I still had to use a 1.4 converter with my 100-400 Canon Mk2 zoom lens on my 80D to get decent sized pics (I do not take a bigger 500 mm lens on an aeroplane as it is too heavy for cabin baggage with other gear) but I felt much happier.

By the end of the day, when it was all over, I realised that I enjoyed the show very much, particularly the afternoon slot of about 5 hours.

It was very warm but there was a nice breeze.
