Having seen the same aircraft on the airshow circuit in the UK over the years, I thought I would venture over to France this summer to see some different displays (and aircraft).
Can anyone recommend any good airshows overthere, I am looking for a variety of both vintage and fast jets. Thanks in advance!

I understand that La Fert Alais (is that spelt right?) is probably one of the best for historics – SE of Paris if I remember correctly.

This year in June the three Armée de L’Air airshows are at:
BA125 Istres, 5/6th
BA123 Orléans-Bricy, 19/20th
BA103 Cambrai, 26/27th
Always good shows with variety. Cost next to nothing to enter and really good value for money compared to rip off UK shows. I’ll be going to Cambrai as it’s a fighter base. If you have a look at http://www.milavia.net/airshows/calendar/showdates-2010-europe.html you’ll be able to locate the relevant web sites.

The R S A (French P F A equivalent) is always a good weekend fly in type event…not an airshow but if you’re in the area ………………..

I second that opinion, Old Eagle. Whilst you won’t get many vintage and fast jets, Runway06, at most at RSA rassemblements you’ll encounter at least a few, and often many, vintage light and ex-military aircraft and a bewildering selection of homebuilt aircraft. You’ll also, usually, have the opportunity to get ‘close up and personal’ with the aircraft and pilots and photo opportunities that seem rare nowadays in the UK. However they are not air shows but private gatherings – at which a polite request to enter will usually produce a positive response and a warm welcome. Details of these and other RSA events can be found at http://www.rsafrance.com/index.php?option=com_jcalpro&Itemid=143. It’s worth checking this from time to time as many events do not get posted until a few weeks before they happen (but that’s the way of life in France!).

I went to the big RSA event near Paris – at Brienne Le Chateau? – twenty odd years ago and it was a great event even then. Very much like the PFA Rally. The heaviest aircraft to visit was a Flamant and you don’t often see aircraft that size at the PFA (or LAA) rally.

Thankyou very much for your response gentlemen, plenty of of food for thought here, I’ll certainly try a few of them out.

Biggest historic & warbird show in France would be at la Ferte Alais (misspelled earlier – and mine don’t have the accents! 😮 ).
They still have last year’s programme up, but it’ll give you a flavour.

La Ferte Alais – correct now ?
If you’re interested in an RSA type event, try Tannheim “Tannkosh” in Germany – Google is your friend !

Not often but just for the record a Constellation, Bristol Freighter and a couple of Daks have graced past PFA rallys at Cranfield……. (the good old days !!!!). Oh yes, the BBMF Lanc also paid a visit and as I recollect stopped overnight on one ocassion.

Isn’t there a good Historic Air Museum at Le Ferte Alais?

Went to several of the Cranfield rallies but I missed those. My loss – particularly the Freighter and the Connie.

Air Show
Hi, All
If you take the RER “D” train from Gare de Lyon, direction Malesherbes, the line goes through La Ferté. It’s then a 15 minute walk up to the airfield – just follow the crowd!! Well worth it….

I’d lay money you’ve never walked it in 15 mins or it was a long time ago and you’re memory is fading.

La Ferte
I lived in Boutigny (about 5 miles due south of LFA) for 15 years, until about 3 months ago, walked from the station, then up the hill many times. Memory hasn’t faded, but then I am probably younger than some on this Board…..
