LAST EDITED ON 05-Nov-00 AT 09:35 AM (GMT)[p]It is simply incredible what’s going on on this forum, really hard to belive that this is a forum belonging to AirForces Monthly magazine. THAT AirForces Monthly? We have here one of the most popular air forces magazine, whose team is letting its reputation being ruined because – as it seems – not being able to recognize the importance of this forum and medium for their own reputation. Does increased quantity always also means decreased quality? In my opinion not, but this seems to be the rule here.
Explanations like: “Key Publishing intend this forum to be used for good natured discussion and not to injure or potentially injure in any fashion any visitor or third party by way of its contents, and will remove postings which are deemed by its management not to correspond with this intention.” seem to have been posted in the “lobby” because the lawyers said they belong there. So far, there was only one single try of intervention and showing that these rules really matter anything, but the AFM team seems not to be consequent enough and able to find and “install” a rational and neutral administrator, capable of cleaning all the rubbish and posts with idiotic personal attacks here. Why? I don’t know. I know that they have to sell as many examples per month as they can, that’s their job. I also understand, that because of this, they cannot chose their public when selling the magazine. I understand that they try to “left” as much freedom of expression in discussions as possible. But, I don’t understand why is “freedom” here the same with “anarchy”, and I don’t understand the fact that anybody from Keymags was ready to left the niveau crush this low. But, I don’t understand that nobody there is capable of understanding their own responsibility for their reputation (guys: you have calls for your readers to visit your forum everywhere in your magazine; guess the surprise when they do and see this mess here!). Instead of using the chance after the dumb demise of remarq.com, they left this forum to become really a sort of car dump, only smelling much more. Instead of taking a chance and explaining some of its public who belongs where (there are seven forums on this site, at least one of them planed for “youngsters” and people only generally interested in modern air forces), they didn’t take any chance and nothing happened. Again: in doing so, you guys acted directly against your own reputation!
The result? Most of the people who used to post intelligent, reasonable and – foremost – informative posts here, seem not to be willing to do so any more since days and weeks. I guess most of them are asking themselves what to hell is AFM-team taking care of: it’s reputation as informative and quality magazine or sales? Perhaps some of these people come here again, but only to be disappointed even more and find out, that it’s simply not worth any more, because nobody else cares. So, why post again? However, exactly this is the reason of existence of such places in the web: to talk with each other and exchange information. But why post anything at all any more, if every single discussion is destroyed incredibly dumb statements, created by people who simply don’t care to learn, to see and to hear? After stating what I did here, I 1.) don’t expect any meaningfull reactions, 2.) lost my respect for AFM-magazine and 3.) have lost my respect for most of the (remaining) visitors here.
