Airworks in Oman 1967-71.

I served in Oman with Airwork Services as an Engineer. Servicing SOAF A/C.
Piston Provost, Beaver, BAC 167 Strikemaster and DC 3. SOAF at that time was commanded by Sqdn. Leader Alan Bridges, RAF. Last year after 40 years I visited Oman. What a change ! From, no roads, to 8 lane motorways. Bait-al Falaj Fort is now a museum, where, I was re united with my, now vintage A/C.

Here are a few names from my era :- Hugh Heptinstall ( Manager ), RF Philpott ( Manager ) Fred Goodall, ( Chief Eng. ). Keith Cawley ( Eng ), Ron Perkins ( Elect ), Jack Mahood ( Eng ), Colin Wilson (Radio, then SAF ), Roy Jennings ( L ), Wayne Clements ( Stores ).
” Taffy ” Jones ( Eng ), Tony Newby ( Eng ), Paul Lewis ( British Aerospace BAC 167 Strikemaster Rep. ) Chris Perry ( Eng ), Geoff Painter ( Eng ).
I cannot think of anymore of the staff from that period. At 75 the old grey matter is not the same 😉
I would love to hear from other guys who served in Oman during that period.
Also last year I met up with Keith Cawley and Paul Lewis whilst in UK on holiday. We had lots to talk about.
I find your site most interesting, and, am amazed at the amount of vitage A/C under restoration in UK. We have quite a few here ” Down-Under “
