Impressive considering that there were just a handfull not that long ago.

A great deal of this must be down to Hawker restorations?

I believe, KZ321, now CF-TPM with Vintage Wings Of Canada. G-ORGI, now C-FDNL with the Russell Group in Canada.

Hi Roobarb,

How many hurricanes have you done the fabric on now? It must be quite a few now.

I’ve been told the the fuselage is relativley quick and easy to cover, far quicker and easier than the tailplane etc. Is this the case? Can you let us know how long it took you?

AT

This is the third one I’ve been involved in on the re-fabric front, but have yet to do a fuselage so I can’t comment. Due to an “unforseen unserviceability” on my part, Vintage Fabrics were called in and did a lot of the work for me for which I’m very grateful. I’m now back on the serviceable list and I’m just tacking up the port elevator in Darrens picture. Personally I’ve never found the tailplanes to be much of a problem, they’re just heavy to keep turning as you position the fabric. The fuselage fabric is held in place by lock stringers and glue, there’s no sewing or stringing so that cuts down on manhours from that point. However there’s an awful lot of linen to handle and it’s a very large area to dope. Linda and Andrews arms are probably still aching! 😀

This great shot of the CWH Lanacaster formed up with the Vintage Wings MkIV and Ed Russel’s MkXII wouldn’t have been possible that long ago.
I am part of the restoration team for the VWC MkXII which is to be restored to represent Willy McKnights kite when he flew with 242 squadron.
Knowing Mike Potter she will be flying again soon, target is 2008.
This weekend saw the Spit and Hurricane up doing formation practice beautiful site.

Sea Hurricane X AE977 is in the shot (lead aircraft) – she left the UK a couple of years ago, but not sure when exactly

Nice one, was that at a recent Legends that I missed.

Thanks Pete. I left the UK in 2004. 😉 Have to confess, apart from knowing it was Duxford, I couldn’t tell you when it was.

It would be possible to have 6 Hurricanes at the BBMF anniversary show, even if they didn’t fly, it would be most impressive to have them lined up, I know a couple of Hungarians, apart from me, who would help to push them into place.

Whats the largest number of Hurricanes that have flown together since the 50’s, I recall at Legends a few years ago, three were up and the BBMF flew in behind them so, in theory 4 were sort of together, would be nice if they could be all together at the BBMF do at DX in May, any chance.

A Classic!

An aircraft I never get tired of photographing is the Shuttleworth Sea Hurricane, the attached were taken in August.

I will add a few more tomorrow night!

Regards to All!

Have you ever tried finding spare a serviceable Centaurus?

I also think the engine gets an unnecessary bad press. It just needs a whole lot more TLC than most.

Lots of TLC (Terrific Lead Content) 😀

A Genuine ‘Battle of Britain’ Veteran.

And the Merlin III looks an absolute jewel, last seen the aircraft didn’t look all that bad either.

Hi All

To use a phrase long out of fashion “a real bobby dazzler”!
