Airworthy Lockheed 14 Super Electra sought

Bit of a bizarre one, I have just been asked if the services of an airworthy Lockheed Super Electra, of the type that British Airways used & Neville Chamberlain famously made his speech from, can be arranged.
This is for a TV project here at St Athan.

My immediate assumption is that this is going to be difficult to arrange with the original Lockheed Model 14, so any suggestions on where to find one, or a good substitute, here or by PM are very welcome.

BTW I’ve just stopped a phone call from ops to Coventry regarding using their Electra!

Thanks in advance!

No such luck I’m afraid, but expect a Beech 18 in S.Wales sometime in October:rolleyes:

PS thank you all for the help and responses, it’s made interesting reading and raised my awareness of the types.

“RAF Coastal Command took it over in 1945 for anti-submarine missions, and during D-Day festivities it was signed by celebrating pilots whose names are still visible on the empennage. Soon thereafter aviation pioneer, WW1 fighter pilot and dashing entrepreneur Sidney Cotton acquired the Electra (as G-AGTL) for his private use including photo reconnaissance over Eastern Europe and the Middle East. A close friend of Ian Fleming, Cotton is often cited as the inspiration for Fleming’s most famous fictional character, James Bond.

From Cotton the Electra returned to the RAF as a flying testbed for active radar countermeasures before finally entering a less demanding peacetime life, initially in the hands of a well-known peer of the British realm followed by private and commercial owners on the Cote d’Azur, in Corsica and Valence. “

It wasn’t Cotton’s most famous machine though, he flew s/n 1287 after the War (according to g-INFO until 1957) . Pre-war, he flew the aircraft now N12EJ. Hadn’t heard of him using G-ATGL as a spyplane post war.

As N12EJ still exists, maybe Pagen could arrange to have it bought and then donated to Hendon? 🙂

Airworthy Lockheed 14 sought

Is this connected with the new series of BA retro adverts?

Lovely info, thank you again. I know very little about these nice lovely old Lookheeds but as the airfield owners know my interst they have approached me on behalf of the TV people.
Of course from my point of view I would love to see one of these at St Athan and so I am being procative!
I must admit the French L12 ticks most of the boxes so far IMHO.
