Can anyone point me to a link where I can see where a list of airworthy Vampire single seaters in Europe might be? I thought there were one or two in UK but they seem to have vanished into thin air.
Thanks

I haven’t heard anything about it moving on so I think G-DHXX is still at Hurn. I think they want about £39,000 for it – so if your feeling flush! 😎 You could ring them on (01202) 578999.

Ex-swiss Vampire FB.6 LN-JET over Kjeller airfield last summer.
It will get a fresh annual in april and will be displayed at airshows in Norway for the 2005 season.

If anyone is near that area in the next few days could they keep their eyes open please.
Many ta’s!

I’m pretty sure DHXX is still at Hurn in open storage.
The Source hangar is now full of small passenger aircraft.

Just giving this a ‘gentle nudge’ back to the top of the pile.
Would very much like to know where G-DHXX ended up.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

T,
There is an FB Mk 9, WL505, set for rebuild to flight status. That aircraft is with the Vampire Preservation Society. Click on the link for more details.

The attached photo shows the aircraft when it was part of the RAFM Reserve Colection at St Athan, September 1976.

In Sweden we have three airworthy DH-100s: SE-DXS, SE-DXY and SE-DXZ.
Plus four two-seaters. That makes 11 Vampire seats in total 🙂

I remember seeing it arrive at DX during the Tiger Sqn convention & blowing a tyre about 4 years ago.

Had a couple of pm’s on the subject. Is G-DHXX still in the country or has it departed?
I flew the Scandahooligan one about 4 years ago and fell in love with the type.

…a nice silver one with a bright green tail…
Don’t know much about this Vampire – was that a ‘personal’ colour scheme or a RAF 112 Squadron scheme?

Airworthy Vampire
The Comox Air Force Museum has one single seat Vampire that flew into CFB Comox when the Museum accepted it. They have over the years continued to run the engine and taxi the aircraft to maintain it. As a matter of fact they had an engine run and taxi test 2 weeks ago. And before anybody asks i was not there to take pictures. Maybe next time. It was always the intention of the group that maintains it to fly it again unfortunately it always comes down to money which is in short supply. Who know some day it may be back in the air.

I’m pretty sure the silver one with green tails is now in the U.S. The was definately one in those colours airworthy in 2001 at Tom Reilly’s place.
Scandinavian Historic Flight (If they still exist) had one. I think the lot at Source were Venoms, only the 2 seaters were Vamps. From memory of course so don’t take it as bible.

John – I saw a Vampire at Point Cook airshow in early 2004 – any idea what that might have been?
cheers Don

Thats so strange because i was thinking the same and was about to post same question.
I thought there was one in the UK and sure of one in NOrway and i believe there was a mark3 in the USA which was i believe at one point the oldest flying jet in the USA.

I think the single seater would have been the machine operated by Source out of Bournemouth. They (Source’s collection) have been static for a few years and are often advertised for sale . There is also a machine active in Norway from memory and in the U.S possibly one of the former RCAF machines is still airworthy.
