Are there any Yak 3’s currently airworthy worldwide? I seem to remember some new build ones from the 90’s.

Good information there chaps, we’ve got a feature film project coming soon that needs one, so that’s given me some valuable pointers.

sconnor, the Yak factory at Orenburg in Russia built 10, new build, Yak-3s which were funded by Flight Magic of Santa Monica in the ’90s. Although none use a Klimov powerplant, Allisons were fitted, it’s still a beautiful aircraft, as you can see in Glenn’s pics, thanks Glenn. For a genuine Klimov powered Yak we’ll have to wait for somebody to buy this:

The OFMC one, converted from a Yak-11, has flown in NZ. D-FLAK is Maxi Gainza’s new build one, which he is trying to get on the G- register. It was damaged in a “birdstrike” with a Falcon while taxying at Le Bourget during the Paris Air Show, but is not as badly damaged as first thought. It’s painted in Louis Delfino’s Normandie Niemen ‘OO’ colours.

At least one (D-FJAK) and maybe a second one (D-FLAK?) are operated in Germany by the Meyer family.

There are some modern built Yak-3/7/9s around. Some were built in the 90s, and other are modified Yak-11s. Most likely the majority of them coming out of the Egyptian batch!
