Akron Ohio Airshow pictures

These are from a few weeks ago at an airshow at the Akron Fulton Airport in Akron Ohio. I’m sure that doesn’t sound familiar to those across the pond but this airport is the home of the FG-1 Corsair during WWII. The factory is still there as is a large blimp hangar used by Goodyear during the war as well.

Ok, enough of that here are the pictures. I’m sure you know more about these aircraft than I so I’ll keep the narration to a minimum.

This year they didn’t have a Goodyear Corsair but they at least at one Vought version.

Wow, good eye seeing it in the picture Ant Harrington. I was looking at that when I got the pictures developed and I think it’s a Navion. I don’t even remember it flying around that day but I’m pretty sure that’s the right shape.

Warhawk, I personally think I have a better smile but more people were taking pictures of the plane none the less. 🙂

Nice pics Whiskey, thanks for those 🙂 Interesting shot of the P38, that tail-down attitude means they must have the belly tanks full of fuel.Could be interesting if she developed some sort of engine or landing gear problem,my understanding of FAA regulations is that you’re not allowed to jettison any external stores, even in a an emergency.
The Corsair is an F4U1 and was originally built with a birdcage canopy.I’ve read that they intend to re-fit the birdcage canopy in the near future.
Nice pics,thanks again Whiskey!

They attempted to pull this F/A-18 out of the crowded static display area by pulling it by a tether attached to the tail hook. They exceeded the side limit on the hook breaking it. A bunch of Navy guys then pushed it out. I don’t think it left that night as planned. Oops.
